Lots of exciting things to tell about this past week! First off, Zack got baptized yesterday! This Gospel changes lives! This guy has come so far in the past couple of months and has changed his life 360 degrees! He is incredible. He is so dedicated to the Gospel and loves the Book of Mormon and keeps all of his commitments. He is such a great example to his son and I know that the Gospel is going to continue to change their lives for the best! Miracles are real. They happen. Baptism is incredible! :)
We had an investigator at church yesterday! She lived in Utah for a little while and absolutely loved the people! She saw the Spanish Elders last week and yelled out to them! The Elders sent us over the next day! At church yesterday. It was hilarious! After the baptism (right after the ordinance) she put her hands up in the air, in the front of the room, and said "hey everybody, hey everybody, I got a question for y'all. You never clap? There have been three times today that I have wanted to clap and nobody does..." It was so funny! The room went silent and then one of the sisters piped in and said something! Phew! Afterwards our investigator went on to say that she loved being here and how great everybody was to her and all that! It was a good time! Got to love people! :) Hilarious! We haven't stopped laughing about that one yet!
We contacted a former investigator this past week (we taught him about 2 months ago, only once and then never could make contact). When we stopped by to see if he was home, he was. Him and his mom were there. Usually they would be at work but their car broke down this morning on the way to work. You could tell they were upset about it but they kept saying "everything happens for a reason". They let us in and we read Alma 32 with them and it was an incredible powerful lesson! The Spirit was so strong and taught them so much. When we would stop and ask questions, it was incredible to hear what the Spirit taught them! At the end of the lesson, he prayed, and in his prayer he said that he knew that we were the reason that their car broke down this morning. We were why they needed to be home. He asked about baptism and exactly what he needed to do to prepare. He knows this is it. God truly does prepare His children! :)
Betty turned 8 this past week and when we asked the dad about baptism he said that he wants her to investigate the church for one year before he will allow her to make that decision. That means she has 5 more months! I was so impressed with the father's decision. He truly knows how important it is and wants his kids to understand the promises they are making at baptism. It truly shows his character. He is a great man and a phenomenal father! He wants his kids to be committed to the Gospel and we have already seen that in the other 4 children. Makda, the 18 year old, was given a calling yesterday in church. She is the stake youth representative for the young women's program in the Hermann Park Ward. As she stood in sacrament meeting yesterday for this announcement, the light of Christ was shining from her. These children have changed their lives and are true followers of Christ. His light shines through them in all that they do! I love the Gospel. It's powerful!
This morning I was studying fasting and found some incredible scriptures that y'all should look up during your personal study if y'all have some time to. The first one is in Helaman 3:35 and talks about how fasting and prayer have the power to help us develop humility and faith. We know that faith and humility are both things that we all desire. They are Christlike attributes that we all strive to develop. Fasting and prayer are things we can do to develop these attributes within us. Next is Exodus 34:27-28 which is when Moses fasts for 40 days and 40 night as he seeks the revelation for the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments are not something that Moses just "came up with" in a matter of a couple of hours or even a couple of days. He prayed and fasted for 40 days and nights. Power. Incredible. The 10 commandments are real. I think of the talk given this last general conference that said "4 of the 10 commandments are generally accepted in today's world and 6 of the 10 commandments are not". Today is the day that we truly have to stand our ground. Last is Mosiah 4:26 that discusses the topic of as we help others, as we serve, we receive a remission of our sins. Service can be and is a part of repentance. Who knew? Anyways, I love this Gospel! I learn so much every single day! I love y'all and hope all is well!
